Yamilet Fernandez Camarena is a sibling of an older brother with special needs. Finding the right resources and support services was even more difficult for Yami’s family because her parents were immigrants from Mexico who spoke little to no English. Struggling to understand the already complicated system, they became overwhelmed. Watching her parents struggle ignited a passion in her for helping to provide families the peace of mind of knowing that they are prepared for their future. She says,” I would have loved for my parents to not have that constant weight of worry about the future and just focus on appreciating every day we have together. Being a sibling comes with both challenges and rewards, and it has shaped me in profound ways.”

Working closely with Bryan Smith, who is a SpecialCare Planner at Strategic Financial Group, Yamilet Fernandez Camarena is dedicated to helping him as he works with individuals and families with special needs to secure their financial futures. Yamilet also assists Bryan in his mission to provide valuable assistance in crafting comprehensive life care plans and navigating the financial landscape for special needs clients. By working with Bryan, Yamilet is learning how Bryan can help guide families through a multitude of challenges, including facilitating their understanding and access to public benefits, preserving eligibility for such benefits through the establishment of Special Needs Trusts, and addressing any concerns related to guardianship. Yami feels that she has a special calling and passion to give back to immigrant families like hers in the Texas community.
